IBA Conference 2017 – panel debate on third-party funding

IBA

On 10 October, IMF Bentham’s Oliver Gayner discussed trends in litigation and arbitration funding as part of an expert panel at the International Bar Association's Annual Conference in Sydney.

The session explored the origins of litigation funding in Australia, and how the industry has since evolved globally, with perspectives from the President of the NSW Court of Appeal, litigation counsel, an arbitrator and IMF Bentham as funder.

The session chaired by Ira Nishisato, Co-Chair of the IBA Litigation Committee, also explored the tests applied for court approval in various jurisdictions such as Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore, the desirability of transparency and ethics, and the strategic role funding can play in international dispute resolution.

During the IBA Conference from 8 to 13 October, Sydney has welcomed lawyers, judges and other members of the legal community from around the world.

IMF Bentham is one of the world’s leading litigation funders. For more information visit our website
