Michelle Painter SC

Michelle Painter SC joined Omni Bridgeway’s Investment Committee in December 2021.

Michelle brings to the Investment Committee decades of experience gained as a Senior Counsel at the NSW Bar and as a solicitor in Canberra, ACT.

Michelle’s principal areas of practice are commercial and corporations law, regulatory proceedings, equity, insolvency and construction. Her expertise is in large and complex matters where and she regularly advises and appears for large corporate clients including executives, directors, administrators, and liquidators. Michelle also has in-depth experience appearing in various Commissions of inquiry, including the RSL Commission of Inquiry and the Trade Union Royal Commission.

Prior to joining the Bar, Michelle was a solicitor at the Office of the Australian Government Solicitor with various roles within the Trade Practices Unit and Civil Litigation Unit in Canberra, ACT. She also spent a year as a solicitor at the Office of General Counsel, Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department in Canberra, ACT.

Michelle was admitted as a Barrister in NSW in 1998, appointed Senior Counsel in 2013 and is has been an accredited mediator since 2015. Michelle has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Adelaide and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia, Canada. 

Michelle is a member of the NSW Bar Association Professional Development Committee and Wellbeing Committee and is a regular speaker at Bar Association events, conferences, and seminars. She is a regular advocacy instructor for the NSW Bar Readers Court. She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the Women Lawyers Association of NSW. In every year since [2016] Michelle has been recognised in Doyle’s Guide Leading Wills & Estates Litigation as a leading or recommended Senior Counsel – New South Wales.
