Paul Rand is a Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer - Canada, where he leads the team and oversees Omni Bridgeway’s investment management and due diligence.
Paul brings more than 20 years of experience in the legal profession, as a litigator and as a transactional lawyer, working in senior roles in private practice and in-house.
At Omni Bridgeway, Paul is focused on disciplined risk management and a mandate to help clients apply innovative financing to their litigation assets. He also works with law firms seeking to accelerate profitability with a funding partner. For his work in the legal finance industry, Paul is ranked by Chambers and Partners in their 2022 and 2023 Litigation Support Guide as one of only three Band 1 individuals nationwide for litigation funding in Canada and is also recognized as a Thought Leader by Who's Who Legal (2022-2023).
Prior to Omni Bridgeway, Paul was a member of the capital markets team at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. He has held in-house positions with Royal Bank of Canada, first as counsel managing a portfolio of litigation, and later as senior counsel advising on complex transactional and regulatory matters. He began his career with the litigation group of the firm that is now Norton Rose Fulbright Canada.
Paul’s background includes having been previously recognized as "repeatedly recommended" in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory in connection with derivatives instruments, having co-authored The Law of Fraud in Canada, and having served as a past board member of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Ontario Chapter. He currently volunteers with the Law Society Foundation's Lawyers Feed the Hungry program. Paul earned his law degree from the University of Western Ontario and his bachelor’s degree from Queen's University.
