Position Summary

As Director, Marketing and Business Development (Americas) you will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing and BD strategies and support for the U.S., Canadian and LatAm teams of professionals across seven locations.

Reporting to the Global Chief Marketing Officer (GCMO), and working closely with the US Chief Investment Officers, you will spearhead plans to generate new client relationships, expand existing relationships, and elevate the company’s market profile. 

Managing three direct reports and working with U.S. and global colleagues, the ideal candidate excels at both strategy and implementation, is fluent in industry best practices, and brings with them a commercial approach. The role is suited to a BD professional who is agile, entrepreneurial, and adept at inspiring and leading people through the expansion of Marketing infrastructure and resourcing.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Marketing Strategy, Planning and Execution – Develop and manage integrated business development, marketing and communication strategies and plans with investment managers and legal counsel in the Americas region, collaborating with global colleagues on cross-border initiatives. 
  • Planning and Metrics – Implement processes for developing and managing actionable data-driven plans by business line, geography and / or industry sector. Identify KPIs, frameworks, and tactics to optimize the marketing effort with a focus on conversion. Establish feedback mechanisms and metrics to assess, support and report on plan progress. 
  • Client and Market Strategy and Support – Institute strategies to advance client relationships and penetrate new markets including research and analysis, lead generation, pitches and proposals, client teams, client events and sponsorships, CLEs, and bespoke client solutions and partnership opportunities, working closely with investment teams.
  • Industry Profile and Thought Leadership – Initiate and steward thought leadership programs collaborating with professionals, global colleagues, and external partners. Ensure the company is at the forefront of relevant industry journals and publications, panels, partnerships, events, and sponsorships. 
  • Trusted Advisor and Coach – Create formal and informal forums and feedback mechanisms for coaching and information sharing on BD and marketing best practices, tactics, successes, and lessons learned to drive cross-team awareness, cross-selling, and continuous improvement and learning. Regularly meet 1:1 with investment managers to discuss their personal plans and progress.
  • Operations / Service Delivery – Build and champion a culture of proactive planning, project management, and continuous optimization and improvement of marketing and BD services. Promote and enable use of CRM, marketing automation, and research and intelligence-based insights to inform decision-making.
  • Team Leadership – Mentor direct reports including personal plans and performance management aligned to business priorities. Collaborate on global initiatives with the GCMO and colleagues as a visible senior leader within the marketing organization. 
  • Data, Analysis and Reporting – and championing use of internal and external tools and resources to advance
  • As a key senior leader within a growing team, work closely with the GCMO to lead and support projects and company initiatives as required.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • To be considered, candidates must have a minimum 12 years of experience in marketing and BD ideally within law firms, and / or professional or financial services.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years must be at a senior managerial level managing direct reports.
  • Candidates must possess a relevant Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. A master’s or law degree is desirable.  

Essential Competencies:

  • Experience regularly working with, and presenting to, senior leadership teams. 
  • Exceptional industry experience with a demonstrable track record of developing and implementing major projects, programs and / or marketing service functions.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, in a corporate setting.
  • Sophisticated writing / editing of marketing communications for B2B audiences across channels. 
  • Strong process orientation, project management and organizational skills. 
  • Strategic, proactive perspective, excellent work ethic, and intellectual curiosity.
  • Creative and collaborative. 
  • Technical competency including Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and digital marketing.
