About the position

Omni Bridgeway is seeking a Singapore based, legally qualified (associate) investment manager with extensive experience in international arbitration and litigation to increase the capability of its Asia and global investment team. 

Omni Bridgeway has a significant portfolio of funded matters in Asia, supported by an established global enforcement team and global teams of arbitration focused and other sector specific investment managers. While part of the Asian investment team, this position will work in close collaboration with the global arbitration team and the global enforcement team within Omni Bridgeway.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the Asia investment team (and where required, the global arbitration and enforcement teams) in the following areas:

  • Reviewing and critically assessing funding applications, including advice on core risk assumptions for the preparation of financial models.
  • Preparing investment proposals for recommended investments.
  • Negotiating funding terms, including term sheets and funding agreements.
  • Managing funded investments through to conclusion, including day-to-day management of enforcement matters.
  • Various business development initiatives.

Position Overview

Job title: Investment Manager or Associate Investment Manager, depending upon the seniority of the candidate.
Office location: Singapore.
Reporting to: Managing Director and CIO Asia.

Responsibilities

Providing day-to-day support to the Asia, and the global arbitration and enforcement, investment teams on the following: 

Funding applications

  • Due diligence on factual and legal issues of potential investments.
  • Considering the financial metrics of funding applications (including budgets, funding and return structures, risk sharing arrangements).
  • Negotiating funding terms and return structures.
  • Preparing for and presenting to investment committee(s).
  • Assisting the in-house legal team with the funding documentation.

Managing funded cases

  • Monitoring and managing the progress of funded cases, including continuing assessment of prospects of success and recoverability as well as managing external advisers on timelines and budget.
  • Adding value in strategic direction and settlement discussions.
  • Developing and executing on multi-jurisdictional enforcement strategies, together with the global enforcement team, providing day-to-day instructions and oversight of all external service providers.

Business development and marketing

  • Business development activities with the Asia investment and marketing teams. 
  • Identifying and pursuing valuable law firm and client relationships within an existing extended network and growing that network.
  • Cross-selling Omni Bridgeway’s other global funding capabilities.

About the person

Education

  • Law degree.
  • Additional education in complementary fields such as finance is a plus.

Experience and Expertise

  • At least 5 years’ post qualification professional experience, preferably at a leading international firm.
  • Admitted to practice (or qualified for admission to practice) in one or more jurisdictions.  Experience in both common and civil law matters is a plus.
  • Mid- to senior level experience in international arbitration and award enforcement with a proven track record of handling complex, multi-jurisdictional cases.
  • Proficiency in Asian languages, such as Mandarin, Korean and Japanese, is a plus.
  • Confidence in financial settings, including understanding of and fluency in financial concepts and terminology used in investment management.
  • Demonstrated ability to positively impact workplace culture.
  • Experience in interacting with a diverse team of technical experts across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with and influence stakeholders.
  • Valid residence or ability to work in Singapore a plus.
