Position Overview

Job title: Investment Manager, IP and Patent Law
Office location: Cologne

About the position

Omni Bridgeway is seeking a German legally qualified investment manager with extensive experience in IP and patent law disputes to increase the capability of its EMEA and global investment team.

Omni Bridgeway has an established team of patent law investment managers in the US and a significant portfolio of funded matters. There is an increasing demand for litigation funding in EMEA in relation to IP and patent law disputes with connections to the US and Asia. This position will work in close collaboration with the US IP and patent law group and report to the EMEA Chief Investment Officer and management team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing a portfolio of IP and patent claims in EMEA.
  • Expanding Omni Bridgeway’s presence in the region.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert on IP and patent law disputes for EMEA.

The role will appeal to candidates who enjoy high-growth, entrepreneurial and international environments and are comfortable being both strategic and hands-on in the way they operate.


Funding applications

  • Due diligence on factual and legal issues of potential investments.
  • Considering the financial metrics of applications (including budgets, funding and return structures, risk sharing arrangements).
  • Preparing for, and presenting to investment committee(s).
  • Assisting the legal team with the funding documentation.

Managing funded cases

  • Monitoring and managing the progress of funded cases, including continuing assessment of prospects of success and recoverability as well as managing external advisers on timelines and budget.
  • Adding value in strategic direction and settlement discussions

Business development and marketing

  • Coordinate business development activities with the EMEA investment and marketing teams as well as with the US based IP and patent law team.
  • Source investment opportunities in relation to IP and patent law disputes in Germany and across Europe.
  • Identify and pursue valuable law firm and client relationships across Europe.
  • Driving and contributing to business development activities such as thought leadership, panels and events.

About the person


  • Law degree and admitted to practice.
  • Additional education in complementary fields such as finance highly regarded.

Experience and Expertise

  • At least 8 years’ experience, of which a minimum of 5 years in IP and patent law disputes. Additional experience is highly regarded.
  • Specialist attorney title for IP rights (“Fachanwaltstitel für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz”) a plus.
  • Fluent in English and German. Additional languages a plus.
