Bentham IMF Welcomes Geoff Moysa
Bentham IMF has hired a second Investment Manager in its Toronto office as it continues to pioneer the commercial litigation funding industry in Canada. Geoff Moysa, a partner in the litigation and dispute resolution group of McMillan LLP in Toronto, joined the company this month as Investment Manager and Legal Counsel. Geoff is the fourth lawyer from a leading Canadian firm who has joined Bentham IMF since it became the first global commercial litigation funder to enter the Canadian market in 2016. His hiring follows those of Naomi Loewith, a litigator from Lenczner Slaght LLP, who became the company’s first Investment Manager in Canada; Nickolas Tzoulas, a litigator from Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, who joined as Legal Counsel; and most recently George Hendy, formerly head of litigation at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP in Montreal, who joined as Senior Advisor – Quebec.
Geoff will help Bentham IMF continue to develop opportunities in the Canadian commercial litigation funding market, conduct due diligence on a rapidly growing pipeline of potential investments, and work with lawyers and clients to manage funded matters. His decade of experience as a commercial litigator makes him ideally suited to provide the case assessment and management skills that make Bentham IMF the market leader in identifying and funding meritorious commercial cases. While at McMillan, Geoff conducted trials, arbitrations, administrative hearings, appeals, applications and motions. He has expertise in areas ranging from complex contractual disputes, international arbitration, insolvency, class actions and securities litigation. Geoff was lead counsel on precedent-setting decisions regarding shareholder rights and hostile take-over bids.
“Geoff brings a great deal to Bentham IMF’s business in Canada: both valuable front-line litigation experience in important practice areas, and deep connections within the Canadian legal and corporate communities” says Tania Sulan, Bentham Canada's Chief Investment Officer.
Geoff holds a J.D. from the University of Toronto, where he was awarded the Genest Murray prize in Evidence, and an M.A. and B.A. from the University of Alberta in his hometown of Edmonton. He was named a Future Leader in International Arbitration by Who’s Who Legal in 2018.
Bentham IMF is delighted to welcome Geoff to the team. Geoff can be reached at [email protected] or 416 583 5720.
